The overhauling / rebuilding of drawers.

Sometimes it is more advantageous, from a budgetary and/or technical point of view, to overhaul or rebuild the drawers of MCC distributing boards, instead of installing completely new LV distributing boards. The cabinets (casings) themselves and the copper bars are, in that event, retained. Which also means that all the existing cablework stays intact.

An example of an old MCC cabinet, type: Delle. This cabinets are, mechanically speaking, of a sturdy design and the gripping contacts of the copper have good wear resistance, so that it’s advantageous to replace only the switchgear.

An example of an old drawer. You’ll notice that, in the past, fuses were commonly used, e.g. to reduce the short-circuit making capacity.

A rebuilt drawer. All the switchgear was renewed. The fuses and the thermal relay were replaced by an adjustable, thermomagnetic motor safety switch.

By using an auxiliary relay and auxiliary contacts, the drawer can be adapted to match the new operating system. The requisite ingenuity is often needed in order to incorporate everything in the limited space available.
